If you’re interested in knowing a bit more about who might be steering the ship at BasePoint CPA, here is some additional information.
I was never originally interested in accounting. I loved knowing how things worked, and so I studied molecular biology and biochemistry in university, so I could understand how life works at the molecular level. During this time, and in my years working in the biotech world, decision making based on data was paramount. So, it was no surprise that when I first started my own business, I used data to make decisions. That path led me to discover that accounting is the marriage of science and business, understanding how businesses work at their own “molecular level”, and eventually that path led me to where I am now as a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA).
Between then and now I have run finance operations for a commercial construction General Contractor, and worked with many business owners, from start-up to wind-up, helping with those compliance needs such as taxes, as well as helping them navigate their business to where they want it to go, through our virtual CFO services, and everything in between. As a Certified Exit Planning Advisor (CEPA), much of what we do is also informed by the reality that you will eventually need to exit your business, though there is no rush to do so. And so, putting plans and systems in place to make that eventuality occur more smoothly ends up helping improve your overall business strategy as a whole, as you start to build your business into something great, that someone else may love to own in the future, and which you can really enjoy until then!
